Pasban opposes pillion riding ban on polling day
Karachi, April 21: Strongly condemning the ban on pillion riding on the day of by-election, Pasban e Pakistan general secretary and candidate from NA-246 constituency Usman Moazzam said the ban on pilling riding in Karachi for 72 hours just for 8 hours of polling is nothing but the failure of the government and administration.
He was addressing a protest demo against the government decision of pillion riding in front of Pabsan’s central election camp at Kareemabad here Tuesday. He asked the government to end the VVIP protocol and utilize the police force presently on VVIP duties to protect the citizens and crush terrorists. He demanded that the decision of ban on pillion riding in Central District of Karachi should be withdrawn immediately. He said when Karachi would become a province itself, the VIP culture would be ended and the citizens would get rid of the armed mafias and live a peaceful life.
He said the government and administration just for the security of a few VIPs has deputed thousands of policemen on the VIP protocol, while no step is taken to provide security to the masses. He said for adding insult to injury, the administration has announced banning pillion riding in District Central Karachi that would affect hundreds and thousands of Karachiites. He said a vast number of bikers and people belonging to low income group would be affected by the ban on pillion riding, which he termed the exploitation of Karachiites.
Usman Moazzam said Pasban has always played a due role for protection of the rights of Karachiites and it would continue to struggle for this noble cause. He said that Pasban demands that people should vote for ‘Karachi Province’, adding when the mega city would get the status of a province, its citizens would get their due rights and their lingering problems would be resolved. He said if Karachi is made a province the VIP culture in Karachi would die automatically. He said we would end VIP protocols and depute our policemen in streets and localities to provide security to common man.
He said the rulers and bureaucracy who travel in air-conditioned cars do not know the problems of poor bikers. He advised if the rulers and bureaucrats only just for one day commute on motorcycles they would realize how much agony a common man braves due to the ban on pillion riding. He said the pillion riding is a means of commuting for poor people and the benefit of ban on it would only go to the transport mafia of Karachi. He said the transport mafia is always ready to bribe the corrupt bureaucrats so that they slab ban on the pillion riding even on minor occasions so that this mafia mints millions at the cost of Karachi commuters.
Pasban e Pakistan President Altaf Shakoor and Pasban Karachi chapter president Shaikh Muhammad Shakeel were also present.
