Argentina: Widow Sentenced for Taking Child of Disappeared Couple

An Argentine court has sentenced the widow of a military dictator for taking the child of a forcibly disappeared couple. Ana Maríe Grimaldos, together with her husband Jorge Mendoza, Operational Chief of the main torture center during the dirty war, took the child and raised it as their own. When Javier Penino Vinas turned 20, he heard that he was the biological son of a woman held in the center and underwent biological testing that confirmed his true family lineage. Grimaldos was sentenced to six years in prision, a gesture welcomed by the grandmother of Javier Penino Vinas as a healing sign of recognition of a human rights crime. teleSUR
