Was the air traffic supervisor taking a nap when MH370 disappeared?

A new report reveals an air traffic supervisor may have been asleep when Malaysia Airlines flight 370 disappeared on March 8 last year.

A transcript of a conversation between two air traffic controllers reveals that a Kuala Lumpur controller told a Malaysia Airlines official to wake up his supervisor so they could determine when they lost contact with the plane.

That conversation reportedly came four hours after the pilot’s signoff at 1:19 a.m.

Malaysia’s transport minister Liow Tiong Lai said an external investigation of the transcript is ongoing.

“We will definitely take action if there is any misconduct,” he said in an interview.

Airline officials waited 40 minutes after receiving the final radar from the plane before trying to get in touch with the cockpit via text messages, according to the report.

The report, which was released last Sunday, also reveals the plane’s flight data battery expired in 2012, a year before the aircraft disappeared.

Search teams are currently scouring a portion of the ocean floor about 1000 miles off the shore of Perth, Australia, according to Time.
