Massachusetts man barricades self in Salem home, throwing out explosives before killing self

A Massachusetts man barricaded himself after he threw multiple explosive devices from his Salem apartment home on Saturday morning, leading to a tense stand-off with the police.

Second-floor residents of the apartment complex evacuated after the man, identified as George Sprague, set off the first explosion at around 7:30 a.m.

Additional small explosives were thrown out of the building’s first-floor windows as the State Police bomb squad and SWAT team members arrived at the scene.

After failing to negotiate with Sprague in a five-hour long standoff, the police set off multiple explosions to get into house where Sprague was founded dead in an apparent suicide.

Neighbors say that Sprague had lived in the apartment for eight years after he took over it when his mother passed away. He in the process of being evicted, according to some reports.
