Islamic State bride recruitment ring busted by Spain and Morocco

Spanish and Moroccan authorities said they have arrested seven suspected recruiters for the Islamic State.

Reuters reported that four women and a man were arrested in Barcelona and in Spain’s North African enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla. Two men were arrested in the Moroccan town of Fnideq.

According to a report in the International Business Times, Spain’s interior ministry said that those arrested were accused of forming a recruiting network in Spain to send women to Syria and Iraq for the Islamic State.

Once the women were in Islamic State-controlled areas, they would be used as suicide bombers or become the wives of militants, the Moroccan interior ministry said.

Spanish police arrested nine people with suspected links to the Islamic State in Melilla in September.
