Charlie Hebdo attackers gained access after threatening life of mother and young daughter

Corinne Rey, known as “Coco”, was a cartoonist working at the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and on the afternoon of the attacks had just picked up her preschool age daughter from daycare.

The gunmen surprised her at the door and threatened to shoot her and her daughter she let them into the building. Rey entered the security code that gave the men access and the killing began while Rey and her daughter huddled under a desk.

The attack left 10 of Rey’s co workers dead and two police officers were killed later.

Many have criticized Rey’s actions and some have even blamed her directly for the deaths of a dozen people.

Hindsight is always 20/20 but the knowledge and guilt Rey will be left with now is that 12 people are dead. She and her daughter listened to them die.

While she is going to have to explain it all to her daughter, what would you have done in her situation?
