6 Firefighters die battling blazing illegal structure that collapsed and trapped them

Last week in Taoyuan, Taiwan, 6 firefighters, all still in their twenties were trapped in a blazing building and died.
The structure was a three story building which housed a swimming pool on the first floor, a bowling alley on the second floor, and the illegally added third floor was a dormitory for employees.
The cause for the fire is unknown.
Two groups of firemen entered the building with two hoses in an attempt to combat the flames. Due to the smoke there was almost no visibility and when radios called for the men to abandon the building, water to the hoses were shut off, and the men began to make their way back out of the burning building.
But before they could evacuate the building, the corrugated metal roof collapsed, trapping the 6 firefighters inside.
Two civilians were pulled from the fire, one of them the proprietor of the business.
One of the firemen who survived explained that there was no visibility inside the building and when told to turn back the men lost track of each other as they attempted to move towards the doorway. The survivor explained that he was lucky to have been guided the last few feet from the building by another firefighter who had ventured a few feet inside the building.
The city mayor has stated there will be an investigation launched to find the cause of the fire and that other illegal structures in the Taoyuan area will also be investigated and dismantled.
