Paintings Used More Blue Color In The 20th Century

According to a recent chart mapping colors in paintings between the years 1800 and 2000, every color except for orange has increased in presence, with a particular growth in the usage of blue.


Paintings have been incorporating more blue in recent times than in the past. 

In fact, all hues were used more except orange, according to a color usage graph of artwork during the 19th and 20th centuries that was recently created by Ph.D. psychology student Martin Bellander. 

To create this visual representation, he downloaded photos of paintings from various sites including the BBC, Google Art Project, and different museums, eliminated entries that lacked information or files, and then chose 100 random pixels from each work to plot.
