Derah Saigol: State Oppression and Narratives of Resistance
The tenants of Derah Saigol, a village near Muridke, have been struggling against eviction by their landlords, the powerful Saigol family, for over four decades. Many members of the community have been to jail under false charges, including Mr. Dastagir, an activist and local leader of Awami Workers Party. At a time that Pakistan is facing an acute political crisis, with various institutions at logger-heads with each other; this video attempts to look beyond the rhetoric, and to acknowledge the everyday struggles of ordinary people against an oppressive and violent system - struggles that tend to fall under the radar of the mainstream media and "political analysis"
