Domestic Abuse: Man almost kills mother-in-law in front of his own baby son

In Kaohsiung, a city located in southern Taiwan, a 37 year old man stabbed his mother-in-law in a fit of rage.
The man and his wife married 3 years ago, but the marriage was less than happy. The husband would regularly verbally abuse and beat his wife, even during her pregnancy. Thankfully his wife was able to deliver a healthy baby boy despite the physical abuse.
The wife’s mother continually told her that divorce was an option and that she didn’t have to stay with her husband for their son’s sake.
Earlier this week, during a particularly bad argument the wife finally demanded a divorce from her husband.
Angry that his wife challenged him the man blamed his mother-in-law, saying that she’d planted the idea of divorce in his wife’s mind. He then pulled a 3 inch blade from his pocket and stabbed his mother-in-law in the neck, the gash was almost 4.5 inches long.
The mother-in-law didn’t want her grandson to see the wound so she staggered out of the bathroom and collapsed on the kitchen floor.
Thinking her mother was dead, the wife quickly shut her son in the bathroom and said she’d leave with her husband as long as he didn’t hurt anyone else.
The toddler eventually called his uncle, who called emergency services.
Police were able to locate the couple in the mountains where the husband had driven, telling his wife all along the way that he was going to kill her and then himself.
Emergency services were able to revive the mother-in-law and she was rushed to hospital where she is now in critical care. The wife and her son are in protective custody while the husband has been charged with attempted murder and domestic abuse.
Talk about hating your in-laws.
