Xerfi Global has recently published a study on Tobacco Groups, which find themselves in a somewhat stagnating environment. Tobacco sales have slowed globally over the last few years with a decline of around 0.3% per year seen from 2010 to 2014. Nevertheless, the future looks somewhat more promising with annual average growth in global cigarette consumption amounting to 0.7% from 2014 to 2020. Growth is particularly to be found in emerging markets. While emerging market smokers made up around 61% of the world’s total daily smoking population in 1980, they are expected to make up around 79% in 2020.
