Web Serial

In today’s edition of Web Serial we listen to social poetry in Cuba, Guatemala and Honduras. On the streets of Havana, the new poetry inspired by Cuban storytelling with roots in Africa doesn’t imitate European or North American poetry. The spoken word or sung word of Amelia Biar and Magia Lopez is an affirmation of identity and a small glimpse of the diversity of poetry in Cuba today. In Guatemala, young poets still quote lines from Otto René Castillo, who returned from exile in the 60s to use poetry as a weapon. And moving on to Honduras, people listen to Roberto Sosa along with the poems of strong revolutionary women like Iris Mencia and Lety Elvir involved in recent struggles. teleSUR
