San Francisco Giants fans went way off base, setting fires, rioting, and destroying public property after the home team defeated the Kansas City Royals to clinch their third World Series title in five years.

Riot police stepped up to the plate to deal with the rowdy sports enthusiasts, deploying tear gas and crowd control tactics.

Fans began to rampage after celebration parties simply got out of control.

The raucous aficionados slowed city traffic and forced municipal bus services to grind to a halt in San Francisco’s Mission District over fear of disturbances.

Authorities say that two people were shot and one was stabbed, so police had to play hardball and a ‘handful’ of arrests were made during the course of the anti-riot operation.

The craziness came way out of left field, with San Francisco fans celebrating peacefully right off the bat of the Giants victory, the but scene slowly descended into chaos as the night wore on.

Police say that rioters continued to wreak havoc until they dispersed at about 1:30 in the morning.
