The former governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, is on the receiving end of many harsh comments after she posted photos of her son, Trig, standing on the family dog.

The child had stepped on top of the lying canine’s back to reach the kitchen counter. The pictures appeared on Facebook with an accompanying note that reads “He, determined to help wash dishes with an oblivious mama not acknowledging his signs for 'up!', found me and a lazy dog blocking his way. He made his stepping stone.”

Palin also wished her followers and fans a Happy New Year and mentioned that stepping stones are a big part of moving forward. It seems like she wanted to praise her son for reaching the sink on his own, as he lives with the struggles associated with Down Syndrome.

Commenters, however, didn’t appreciate the images. A good number of them believe stepping on a dog is a sign of animal cruelty or abuse and expressed their outrage.

Despite all the negativity, Palin has not yet responded to the comments. The dog, a black Labrador, didn’t look uncomfortable or hurt judging by the photos.
