Search resumes for AirAsia plane

Boats and planes from Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and Indonesia head out to an area in the Java Sea where the missing AirAsia jet, is believed to be.

It's been one day since flight QZ8501 disappeared with 162 people on board.

Rescue teams have been searching for any signs of the aircraft since contact was lost roughly halfway through the Indonesian flight to Singapore.

The pilots had requested a course change due to bad weather but did not send any distress call.

(SOUNDBITE) (Bahasa Indonesia) HEAD OF NATIONAL SEARCH AND RESCUE AGENCY BAMBANG SOELISTYO SAYING:

"If the target is on land it's easier than if it's an underwater location, because our evaluation of the coordinates that we received suggested it is underwater so our presumption now is that the aircraft is under the sea. It can be expanded based on evaluation."
