The US online taxi booking company Uber has has had several more set backs since being banned in India where one of its drivers has been accused of rape.

In Spain a judge has ordered its temporary ban on the grounds its drivers generate unfair competition and in Thailand its now been banned as its drivers are unregistered.

The Uber app is designed so that consumers can hail a taxi directly from their phones, without needing to call and are often considerably cheaper than licensed taxis.

Its introduction has annoyed taxi drivers at traditional firms the world over but supporters say the competition should be encouraged.
