MEXICAN ATTORNEY GENERAL SPARKS ONLINE CONTROVERSY
"Ya me cansé", which translates as "Enough, I'm tired" … this is how Mexico`s Attorney General Jesus Murillo Karam chose to end last Friday's press conference about the apparent killing of 43 students from the Ayotzinapa teacher training college, missing since late September. His words and attitude have sparked outrage among Mexican web users and many have taken to social networks to criticise both the Attorney General and Mexico's political class in general.
A lot of web users have taken up the comment as a rallying cry, turning the phrase into a hashtag and sharing posts slamming his insensitivity and lack of respect for the victims' families. Some are saying that if Jesus Murillo Karam is so tired he can no longer do his job properly, then he should resign.
And it's not just the Attorney General under fire in Mexico, other government officials are also facing strong criticism. Thousands of social networkers have been posting messages online slamming their political representatives, the president Enrique Pena Nieto in particular, for not doing enough to deal with the rampant violence across Mexico. Web users are also using the #yamecansé hashtag to say that they too are tired, tired of counting their dead and watching the country sink deeper and deeper into corruption.
