Four of the top five most powerful people on Forbes' 2014 list are leaders of influential countries.

For the second year running, Russia's president, Vladimir Putin tops the list as the most powerful person in the world.

Russia's invasion of Crimea and an oil pipeline deal with China are two of several reasons for the former KGB officer's ranking.

Two women scored top ten places; Germany's Chancellor, Angela Merkel is number five and U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen is sixth on the list.

Business leaders are also considered globally dominant.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin are in the top ten.

Factors considered for the 72-person list are the amount of people, finances and influence the candidates have power over.
