Ricardo Moreno
born 1963 in Havanna/ Cuba and grew up in Santiago de Cuba, the home of Son. He began playing the guitar at the age of eight and performed little later at school concerts. The guitar was not the only instrument to play: very early he joined the school band as a drummer.
In 1986, Ricardo took the chance to move to Berlin (GDR) for a traineeship in a textile manufactory. In between, he took further classes in drums and percussion (Bongos, Congas) and supported the cuban student band in eastern Berlin.
After the wall broke down, he concentrated on different latin-bands as percussionist and performed his own repertoire with guitar and vocal.
During a hard challenge as refugee in asylum in Eastern Germany (1993-97), Ricardo learned to play keyboard as autodidact and began writing his first songs and poetry.
Receiving his residence permit, he turned back to Berlin to start a new live and join in some latin bands. In 1999, after having received the residence permit and return to Berlin, he found his own band with five musicians. In combining Son with rock, jazz and funk, Ricardo’s compositions were orientated on the roots of Nueva Trova.
His poetry, clearly and realistic, tell about the contemporary, ruined Cuba, about love and traditional, energising fiestas.
Meanwhile, the band has become double size and contain musicians from Mexico, Chile, Armenien/RUS, Germany and Cuba. In parallel, the character of the music has changed into afro-cuban Jazz-Funk combined with elements of Timba und Rap.
Actually, Ricardo has fineshed his first album (Producer Marcus Waibel) called " Lucia "
