Dunya News - No innocent person arrested: IG Islamabad

Inspector General Police Islamabad Tahir Alam has said that police did not belong to any political party. He categorically rejected the allegations that innocent political workers were arrested by police. He said, “No innocent person was arrested”. He said that he would resign if any innocent person was proved to have been arrested.

While talking to media today (Tuesday) at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ICCI), Tahir Alam condemned police’s violence on President ICCI Shabaan Khalid. He assured that action will be taken against police officials responsible for this violence. He said that if an anchor from a private TV channels to register an FIR against violence of Police on cameramen, he will register the case immediately.
IG Islamabad said that no innocent person has yet been arrested. He said that he would resign if arrest of any innocent person was proven. “I am ‘real Khan’ and protector of law”, he said. IG Islamabad said that crime rate has increased in Islamabad due to sit-ins. Police is working in very tough conditions, he said.
At the same time, Tahir Alam Khan rejected Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan’s allegations regarding police’s violence on protesters and unlawful arrests.
Police spokesperson said that police is not arresting any innocent person and is doing nothing illegal. “Arresting people who break law is police’s duty”, he said. Police spokesperson also said that threatening an on-duty police officer is also a crime.
