A man in Connecticut was tragically killed after a stray bullet entered his home. The victim, who has since been identified as 58-year-old Darryl McNair, passed away in the hospital.

Responding officers had found McNair wounded inside his basement office. At the time of the shooting, the victim was playing solitaire on his home computer.

It was a little before 2 A.M. when several shots rang out. One of them entered McNair’s basement and struck him.

The victim called to his wife, who in turn contacted police. Just hours before he was shot, McNair’s family and friends had gathered to celebrate his birthday.

His stepdaughter, Chandra Costin said “Not even three hours ago he was dancing in the street. I said, 'look at him.' He was enjoying himself. Now he's gone. What do we do? Where do we go?”

His relatives want justice for the shooter. Police are searching for the individual responsible for his death, but thus far no suspect has been identified.

Investigators say they do not believe McNair was the intended target. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the New Haven Police Department's Major Crimes Unit.
