George Crumb - Black Angels
Il y a des œuvres qui sont immédiatement séduisantes mais qui ne disent rien d'autre que leur propre splendeur "en elle-même", d'autres qui demandent de passer outre la laideur pour accéder à une certaine forme de beauté, comme les oeuvres de Picasso, ou de Francis Bacon.
Black Angels est difficile d'accès: c'est âpre, expressionniste, violent, sans volonté de séduction.
Comme le dit très bien Gilles Macassar: « Ode funèbre composée aux pires heures de la guerre du Viêt Nam, le quatuor à cordes Black Angels s'étire en lambeaux sonores déchiquetés, calcinés, comme la terre ravagée par le napalm »

So, as some creations are beautifull, but said nothing but there own beauty, Black Angels is "ugly", violent, expressionist, difficult to understand, but behind all this violence, this uglyness, there is a kind of beauty, and emotion... The electric insects cruelly buzz, the Black Angels chuckle, but they also cry sometime and seem to ask "why"?...
