The wife of a corrupt real estate developer is kidnapped by two common criminals, who intend to extort him with inside information about his crooked business and off-shore accounts. But the husband decides he'd actually rather not pay the ransom to get back his wife, setting off an unbelievable sequence of double crosses and plot twists that could only come from the mind of Elmore Leonard.
Two common criminals get more than they bargained for after kidnapping the wife of a corrupt real-estate developer who shows no interest in paying the $1 million dollar ransom for her safe return.
Based on the 1978 Elmore Leonard novel “The Switch,” the crime comedy also stars John Hawkes and Yasiin Bey (a.k.a Mos Def), who play Mickey’s kidnappers, and Tim Robbins as her unfaithful husband. The cast also includes Isla Fisher, who plays Robbins’ character’s mistress, and Will Forte.

“You tell him he’s never going to see his wife again. He doesn’t want to see his wife again,” Fisher’s character says in the trailer. “You just saved him a hundred grand a year in alimony.”

“Life of Crime” premiered at the 2013 Toronto Film Fest and hits theaters Aug. 29.
