Behind the scenes at the BMW works in LeipzigBMW has rolled out its latest spectacular model with plenty of fanfare. The i8 -- the Bavarian carmaker's first plug-in hybrid vehicle -- combines the power of a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine with an electric motor for 266 kW of power in all. The hybrid sportscar can hit a top speed of 120 km/h on electricity alone, and its batteries have a range of 37 kilometers.
