BELGIANS SHARE PEARS TO SUPPORT FARMERS
Hundreds of Belgians have been posing with pears over the past few days and posting the pics to social networks to show support for local farmers following the Russian government`s recent move to ban the import of certain European fruit and vegetables. Moscow has imposed the food embargo in retaliation to Western sanctions imposed on Russia over its role in the Ukraine crisis, stirring up strong reactions online. 
Belgians have taken to the web in their droves, slamming Russia`s ban on their pears. Social networkers have been posting photos under the #ShareaPear hashtag in which they pose eating this particular forbidden fruit. It`s one way of voicing their anger over Moscow`s move, and was inspired by a movement started by web users in Poland last week, which saw Poles sharing selfies to show support with their country`s apple farmers, also affected by the Russian embargo. 
Some Russian web users have responded to these images with humour. The person behind this Twitter photo says they are praying the tiny strawberry plant in their garden will give a good enough harvest to overcome the shortage of products coming from Europe. This other web user ironically wonders if Russia could deal with any shortages by reviving the collective farms that became a great source of pride at the time of the Soviet Union.
