In short, this is a footage of Shanghai with a brief outline of drastic change given to this amazing city for the last decade. The few old districts remaining are doomed to disappear to make way for new buildings.
And since we talk about architecture, we also have a nice tour inside the Grand Hyatt hotel from Jin Mao Tower, a 421 meter skyscraper shaped like a bamboo which is considered as a symbol in Shanghai. The aim is to build higher since Chinese people want to assert this mark of power and success. Skyscrapers over 400 meters do watch each other with defiance in China, and the new Shanghai World Financial Center (492 meters) should cast a shadow over the Jin Mao soon...
However, all these nonstop constructions lead to important pollution and that's why the government launches the Dongtan project, a new town in Shanghai suburb. The particularity of this project rests on energy strategy. It should be the first ecological town in the world with windmills, and solar panels...500 000 people will be living there to the end.
