Cop Pulls 340-Pound Drunk Driver To Safety From Busy Highway

A police officer in North Olmsted, Ohio was recorded on his car’s dash camera rescuing a drunk driver from highway traffic.

“An Ohio police officer is being hailed as a hero after dragging a drunk driver from the middle of a busy interstate.” [Via WHDH]
“You can see how busy the traffic is out here. Now the officer stopped the driver in this area for speeding. He had no idea what was about to happen next.” [Via WKYC]
It started as a routine speeding stop on interstate 480 at 11 a.m.
The officer noticed the smell of alcohol in the car, and an empty beer can on the passenger side floor.
When asked if he had been drinking the driver reportedly said that he had a few drinks and was on his way home. When the officer went back to his cruiser to request backup, he jumped out of the car, and ran into traffic yelling “Kill me! Kill me!” ”
He lay down in the fast lane of the highway, and the police officer had to drag the 340-pound man out of harm’s way before arresting him for driving under the influence and speeding.
“He said that he didn’t even think about. What he said was he looked to the left, he looked to the oncoming traffic and once he saw his window of opportunity, he took it.” [Via WEWS]
Detective Sergeant Bob Wagner commended the officer involved saying: “We are very happy with the way he handled the situation. He did a great job. He was waiting for backup and they weren't there yet so he pulled the man to safety all by himself.”
