Egypt proposes ceasefire in Israeli-Palestinian conflict

After a week of fighting the first sign of a possible ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian militants.
At this meeting held with the Arab League in Cairo, Egypt laid out its proposal for an end to hostilities. It would begin with "de-escalation arrangements" from 0900 am in Israel and Gaza, paving the way for a full ceasefire 12 hours later.
Negotiations between both sides would then begin in Cairo within 48 hours.
Egypt's foreign minister said he hopes all sides would use this opportunity to end the bloodshed, which has killed at least 180 Palestinians so far.
EGYPTIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, SAMEH SHOKRY, SAYING:
"The initiative is sent to everyone and is available for all to look at in absolute transparency. It is an effort by Egypt to ward off the dangers that threaten the Palestinian people. We hope that all parties rise to the responsibility of protecting these peoples and preserving lives."
Reaching an agreement will not be easy.
