00:00 Israel says its army is ending its intensive ground operation phase in Gaza after gaining
00:11 control over the northern part of the territory. Defense Minister Yoav Galant added the military
00:16 will soon expand its control over the southern part of the strip as well. The briefing came
00:22 as Hamas issued unsubstantiated claims that two Israeli hostages had died in Israeli shelling.
00:28 Galant went on to justify Israel's strategy in Gaza.
00:32 "If the fire is put out, it will destroy the hostages' fate for many years in the
00:40 hands of Hamas. Without military pressure, no one will speak to us. Without military
00:47 pressure, we will not be able to reach any agreements. Only from a position of power
00:53 can the hostages be liberated."
00:56 Images released by an NGO show Beirut's refugee camp razed to the ground after Israeli forces
01:02 withdrew. The UN continues to complain that access to aid deliveries of medical supplies,
01:08 fuel, water and sanitation equipment to northern Gaza has been denied several times in a row
01:14 since late December.
01:16 While there have been some steps to increase the flow of humanitarian assistance into Gaza,
01:22 life-saving relief is not getting to people who have endured months of relentless assault
01:27 at anywhere near the scale needed.
01:31 Almost 85% of the population are reported to have fled their homes.
