A postal worker in Birmingham, Alabama has resigned after he was caught on camera throwing packages into a ravine.

The US postal service has processed over 150 billion mail pieces thus far, but that doesn’t mean issues don’t spring up occasionally.

A postal worker in Birmingham, Alabama has resigned after he was caught on camera throwing packages into a ravine. The Office of the Inspector General Special Agent Kenneth D. Smith has confirmed the former staffer is no longer employed by the USPS.

The footage was captured by an onlooker and posted to YouTube. The poster wanted to remain anonymous but claimed a co-worker’s boyfriend caught the USPS staffer in action.

The white postal service van had been parked on the side of the road. Both the driver’s side door and rear hatch were left open. The employee retrieved several packages out of the auto and tossed them into the ravine before closing the hatch.

The staffer had been on Birmingham's Southside, in a very hilly area that overlooks the city’s skyline. Although Special Agent Smith has confirmed the resignation of the employee, he refused to release the individual’s identity.

He also wouldn’t say if legal charges will be filed. The Office of the Inspector General has launched an investigation into the incident.
