Pentagon cannot confirm Iranian special forces in Iraq

The Pentagon on Friday (June 13) described the insurgent group that seized Mosul earlier in the week as "well resourced" as it announced it was formulating different options for the White House to consider regarding Iraq.
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) possess a "not unsophisticated degree of cooperation and organization on their part and momentum," Pentagon spokesman Admiral John Kirby told reporters.
Asked about the possibility Tehran may be involved in this week's siege on Mosul, Kirby said, "I have nothing to confirm that there are Iranian special forces inside Iraq."
Kirby added that ISIL had seized armored vehicles and other military assets left by fleeing Iraqi forces.
The Pentagon also acknowledged frustration with Iraq's military, which was trained by U.S. forces at a cost of 25 billion dollars.
