Poroshenko: "I want peace, and I will make Ukraine united"

Wasting no time at his presidential inauguration, Ukraine's Petro Poroshenko walks into parliament determined.

After a strong show of support among his new colleagues, he vows to unite the country and offers his vision for resolving the crisis with Russia.

(SOUNDBITE) (Ukrainian) UKRAINIAN PRESIDENT, PETRO POROSHENKO, SAYING:

"The head of state has a wide range of tools to protect the territorial integrity and peaceful lives of its citizens. There will be no lack of power and decisiveness. But I do not want war. I'm not looking for revenge. However, the sacrifices paid by the Ukrainian people are in front of my eyes."

Ukraine is in a bloody battle with pro-Russian separatists in the east.

The armed separatists want federalization and say they will not give up.
