"Hey, I have an idea! Let's hop over this barrier and take a selfie with the polar bears!" Response: "Great idea! Let me join you."
Hey, Tomo Nation! Do you think we need a new category called "stupid selfies" ? Cuz it sure seems like there's been a bunch recently.
A couple of Canadian high schoolers win this week's dumb selfie award after they jumped over a barrier and took selfies with a polar bear cub!
Not content with a simple selfie with little Humphrey, they even reached into the chain link fence and gave the bear a few pats--which they naturally filmed and posted online.
Now Sam Gonzalez and Georgianna Nagy--both 16-may not have gotten to that part in biology class about how a baby polar bear's mommy has a bite strength of over 1,200 pounds per square inch...more than enough to turn an arm into a snack.
And, listen kids...you're so 2000-and-late. Polar bear selfies have been tried before. Once by an Australian woman in Alaska, and yep, she got bitten.
Another time a woman in Germany gave it a go and yep, she got bitten.
The Toronto Zoo keeps the bears behind two barriers for safety, and yep, there are even signs saying 'don't cross the barriers'.
But Gonzalez says he didn't see the sign. Really? You need a sign telling you not to jump into a polar bear enclosure?? Lucky for them, neither of these genius teenagers won a Darwin Award and survived with just stern Canadian looks of disapproval.
