The US Census Bureau has released its annual list of the fastest growing cities in America, and Texas has more of them than any other state.

It’s claimed 7 of the top 15 spots. Experts cite affordable real estate and low taxes as the top growth factors.

Not all of the news is good, however, as exploding populations don’t necessarily make a boomtown.

Number 1 ranked San Marcos, Texas, has a median annual income of just over 26 thousand dollars, about half of the average in the rest of the state.

Other Texan cities to make the list are Frisco, in second, Cedar Park at 4th, and Georgetown, which is 7th on the list. Odessa, McKinney, and Pearland are also included.

Outside of Texas, many western destinations scored high. South Jordan and Lehi, both in Utah, are in the top 10.

Two Arizona cities, Goodyear and Gilbert, are listed as well.

The eastern coast of the US didn’t fare as well. Only two cities, Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Mount Pleasant, South Carolina showed significant enough growth to be mentioned.

Meridian, Idaho and Franklin, Tennessee also experienced a population bump worthy of inclusion.
