Two Pennsylvania police officers didn't mind getting dirty if it meant saving Sheila Shorr's pet, Pluto, from a mud pit the dog had been stuck in for almost three days.

Sergeant Mike Martin and Officer Mike Kushner of the Willistown Township Police Department responded to Shorr's call on May 9. She told police that her 13-year-old Australian Shepherd, Pluto, had gone missing on Tuesday. She found him stuck in mud near a stream close to her home and needed help getting him out.

When police arrived, Pluto was stuck in two feet of mud and was struggling to keep his nose above the surface. The officers prepared a gurney for the canine and stepped into the mud to rescue the dog.

After 60 hours of being stuck, Pluto was exhausted and couldn't even wag his tail upon being rescued. He was taken to the vet and at first it wasn't certain if he was going to make it.

Pluto still has some matted hair and walks with a slight limp, but the vet said that he's on the way to making a full recovery.
