An international flight from Philadelphia to London had to be diverted on Tuesday night after a very drunk guy got very gropy. US Air Flight 728 departed Philly 30 minutes behind schedule and was supposed to arrive in London six hours later. But passenger Robert John Coppack, a dual US and UK citizen, apparently couldn't wait to start the party and forced the pilot to turn back to Philly after less than an hour in the air.
It's unclear if he got drunk in the airport, on the tarmac or almost instantly after take-off, but drunk he was. Then, while the other passengers were dozing off, he decided it was time to start groping! When the two women sitting next to him complained, flight attendants made him move to the back.
But Coppack wasn't done groping yet, so he became verbally abusive and got one last squeeze in on a retired attendant. That's when a federal air marshal revealed himself and restrained Coppack for the rest of the flight.
The flight was forced to turn back before it had even passed Massachusetts, but it was so early in the flight that the plane was too full of fuel to land. That means that Coppack not only caused hundreds of people to miss their scheduled arrival, but also burned a big angry hole in the ozone layer by wasting fuel.
Upon landing back in Philly, federal agents hauled the drunk and unruly groper off the plane. Coppack is charged with intimidation of a flight crew member and other offenses that could get him 20 years behind bars.
