A man, believed to be a tire factory worker, was critically wounded after he was shot by two men near Jalan 2/28 close to Petaling Jaya Old Town on Friday.
The shooting occurred around 10pm when the factory worker was riding his motorcycle through the neighborhood when he was hit by a car.
One suspect alighted the car from the passenger seat with a parang and started attacking the worker, while the driver stayed in the vehicle. Authorities believe it was an attempted robbery.
A witness, who declined to be named, said the victim then climbed over the gate of his neighbor's house in an attempt to escape his assailants.
"He then climbed over the fence into my house compound while my family and I were still watching television. I was afraid for our safety, so I switched off the lights in our house," the witness said.
The witness then said he heard three gunshots fired outside, followed by the sound of metal falling on the ground.
"I looked outside and saw the man praying in front of our shrine before climbing over our gate to flee his assailants. A motorcyclist who happened to pass by the neighborhood offered the man a ride to safety," he said.
The two suspects also fled the scene.
"There were traces of the victim's blood near our gate. A bullet is stuck on our door and a parang was also left behind," added the witness.
The victim was taken to Hospital Assunta for treatment.
Police are investigating the scene of the incident.
