Stunning Glacier Skywalk Opens in Jasper National Park

Jasper National Park in Canada is now home to a beautiful skywalk that offers tourists and thrill seekers an adrenaline rush.
Jasper National Park in Canada is now home to a beautiful skywalk that offers tourists and thrill seekers an adrenaline rush. It also aims to enhance the viewing experience for guests.
Called the Glacier Skywalk, it's situated in a section of the park called Icefields Parkway. The new walkway is comprised of a glass floor and glass walls so those who venture onto it can see the beautiful canyon that lies underneath and the mountains that stretch towards the sky.
Protruding nearly 115 feet over a cliff edge, Glacier Skywalk dangles 918 feet above Sunwapta Canyon. The skywalk officially opened on May 1st, but it’s been a time consuming project.
It took about 5 years just to design it and 2 years of seasonal construction to make it a reality. In order to stand on the skywalk and experience the breathtaking views, visitors must take a five-minute bus transfer from the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre.
Guests then walk down an over 13 hundred foot long Discovery Trail cliff-edge walkway which leads them up to the Skywalk. Along that route, visitors get to witness interpretive exhibits inspired by nature.
Although local environmentalists weren’t in favor of the commercial construction involving the Skywalk, the glass trail serves as an additional, subtle piece of beauty that blends effortlessly into the ecosystem.
