Strange Peach - Dutch Swing College 1970
The very first 78 rpm disc recorded by the Orchestra of the Dutch Swing College was on July 10 1948 by Decca in Hilversum Holland. The sides were Strange Peach and Apex Blues. A few years later the band’s name was shortened to Dutch Swing College Band and during their 25th anniverary they played this tune again during a TV performance. What you see here is from the only surviving copy of this broadcast. Unfortunately there are a few bars lost toward the end.
Next to Peter Schilperoort we see Arie Ligthart banjo, Huub Janssen drums, I think Chris Smildiger bass, Dick Kaart trombone. Bob Kaper is on clarinet and today the leader of the DSC. Cornettist Bert de Kort left the band in the late seventies, however he returned I believe in 2001 and plays cornet and trumpet in the current band.
