MQM and PML call for FATA reforms now in Pakistan

Asif Husnain:
1. It’s so strange that two different set of laws are followed in one country. At one side the people do have access to parliament making of laws for themselves and enjoy the right of access to session and high courts, while on the other hand the people of FATA look upon the President for their laws; the President who is the sole authority for their issues.
What a great difference is this, that two opposite systems are implemented in one region.
Secondly; several governments came to power and had been talking about giving relief to the public but why the people of FATA are kept deprived. They are still kept under the old system of FCR, which was implemented on them since long and due to which they are not given their due rights.
2. I think when all the major political and religious parties of Pakistan have agreed on 11 reforms recommendations and are pushing for reforms implementation. Also in the second phase they are meeting with party leaderships to highlight all these reforms recommendations, then what reasons do the government of Pakistan, the people of authority, and higher ups have to not take the FATA issues seriously.
Ajmal Wazir:
1. We the 10 political parties have drafted 11 points reforms recommendations on consensus. Afterwards we planned for meetings with the political leadership. First of all we went to Lahore and met the former JI leader, Munawwar Hassan. He joined us in the Media briefing and ensured his support.
Then we went to Balochistan, where we met CM Balochistan, Dr. Malik Baloch; who is also member of our committee; and the Governor Balochistan. In our press conference Dr. Malik Baloch endorsed our 11 points recommendations.
Now we went to 90 to meet the MQM leadership. There we met Farooq Sattar, Haider Abbas Rizvi, Asif Husnain, and Rasheed Gudail. They also announced their support with us in a pres conference.
Yesterday we went to Bilawal House where we talked to Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and both of them offered their full support.
2. We want to amend article 247 in the parliament as was done the 18th amendment. We want amendments and especially to amend article 247.
Some of the issues would be resolved through executive while others would be done through parliament.
At this stage we are close to success, and let me make it clear that this is the only committee which is united on recommendations for FATA despite their differences in other ideologies. And the party leadership is also on board with us, we are moving along with them.
3. I am hopeful that the reforms will be implemented this year and these issues are moving towards resolution.
