Stop Snitchin? Motorists drive by as Camden man gets knifed to death

A video shot in the early hours of Saturday, December 14, 2013, in Camden, New Jersey shows 57-year-old Timothy Appling getting stabbed to death and gawking motorists failing to call police. In the video the suspect is wearing a light-colored Carhartt jacket and is seen crossing Atlantic Avenue near Broadway to approach his victim. The two men walk casually for several seconds before they reach a telephone pole.

Much of what happens next to obscured by the camera. An assault lasting several minutes takes place. Police say Appling was stabbed multiple times during an attempted robbery. He later died in the hospital.

Incredibly, what the video shows is at least five cars driving by the fatal assault. The cars slow down as they pass the crime scene. At least one car performs a U-turn to get a better view of the unfolding murder.

But no witnesses have come forward to identify a suspect, and police are eager to interview the drivers of the passing vehicles. Will someone be brave enough to come forward? Or will the street code against snitching prevail? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
