A speck of bright light that appears to be coming from the surface of Mars has the UFO fan community buzzing.

The shot was taken by right hand camera of NASA’s rover Curiosity. The left hand camera, which works in tandem with it, shows no such detail in its view of the same scene.

For most, the working theory is that it’s a glitch involving the loss of some pixelated information. It did, after all, travel all the way from Mars to Pasadena, California, where the image was received.

UFO aficionados have several other explanations.

Among the most popular is that there is intelligent life on Mars and they live underground. The speck of luminosity is evidence that they use artificial lighting much in the way we Earthlings do.

NASA’s true intentions on Mars were also called into question, with one blogger accusing them of being there to delay finding proof of life rather than searching for it.

The space agency hasn’t commented on the photo, but media outlets have asked that experts at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory take a closer look at it.
