ENCORE! - Getting to know the real James Ellroy

He’s the self-proclaimed demon dog of crime fiction and his own back story is as riveting as anything he's penned. The unsolved murder of his own mother has been the driving force behind his work, turning him into an uncompromising, unapologetic chronicler of humanity's dark side. After spending his twenties drunk, drugged and delinquent, he went on to become a best-selling author, with books like LA Confidential and The Black Dahlia also being turned into blockbuster films.
James Ellroy joins Jade Barker on set to talk about why he likes to blend history with fiction, how his style is subordinate to his books and how he’s not looking for closure over his mother’s death. He also gives us a taster of what’s going to be in his next novel, the first instalment of a second LA Quartet series. The hint is in the title "Perfidia", which is both a classic 1930s song and the Spanish word for treachery.
Beneath the public persona of the demon dog, he also tells Jade who the real James Ellroy is.
