Waterless sanitation: innovative and potentially profit-generating

Innovators from around the world are showcasing their talents at “The Toilet Fair” in New Delhi, India.

The ‘Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’ set participants a challenge to reinvent the toilet.

Its primary goal is to create cheap and serviceable devices for 2.5 billion people worldwide who don’t currently have hygienic sanitation systems and may not have ready access to water.

Scientists at the Fair are asking people to ‘think outside of the box’ by recognising normal toilet waste as profit-generating resources for electricity, fertiliser or even fuel.
