Japanese fugitive nabbed after two days on the lam

Yuta Sugimoto, an unemployed Japanese man in his 20s, arrested on gang rape and robbery charges made a brazen escape from detention in Yokohama on Tuesday. Police found him in a brush of the park in Yokohama and brought him into custody on Thursday afternoon.

Sugimoto made his escape on Tuesday while he was consulting with his lawyer in the interrogation room, right in front of prosecutors and police. Kanagawa Police had been searching him with 4,000 police forces for 47 hours. After he fled the Kawasaki branch of the Yokohama District Public Prosecutors Office, police identified a man riding a white scooter from security camera footage. Sugimoto is said to deny any knowledge of the man.

While police were investigating what company Sugimoto keeps, they figured out he's got a mobile phone and began tracing him by the location information from the phone. Investigators discovered him hiding behind a brush of the park 20 kilometers away from the the Kawasaki branch of the Yokohama District Public Prosecutors Office.

Police detained Sugimo shortly after he admitted his escape. He was busted again for gang rape and robbery charges. He was sent to the Kawasaki branch of the Yokohama District Public Prosecutors Office on Thursday afternoon and he will be later taken to Kanagawa police headquarters.
