Helicopter dog rescue: Sonoma County deputies pluck black Labrador retriever from 90-foot cliff

A dog stranded on a cliff at Portuguese Beach in California's Sonoma County was rescued on Saturday by a deputy dangling from a helicopter.

The black and white Labrador, Oreo, managed to get herself about 40 feet down a 90-foot cliff. Her owner called for help and authorities were dispatched to the scene.

When the dog proved unable to come back up the cliff on her own, a sheriff's deputy was hooked up to Henry-1, the sheriff's department's rescue helicopter, and sent down the rock face to rescue the animal.

Oreo responded positively to the rescue--she went along willinging--and she was safely reunited with her owner. The scene was witnessed by several onlookers who were visiting the beach that unusually warm day and they erupted into applause.

The rescue mission took less than three minutes in total.
