Marwan: 4-year-old Syrian war refugee found wandering alone in desert

UN relief workers found a 4-year-old Syrian refugee named Marwan wandering alone in the desert near the border with Jordan. Marwan was fleeing the civil war with his parents when they became separated. All the boy had was a plastic bag full of his possessions. How long he had been alone in the desert is unclear.

UN aid workers brought the boy to a refugee center in Jordan that is sheltering more than 100,000 was refugees. About 10 percent of the refugees are under the age 4.

The journey across the desert can take several days. The UNHCR spokesman Andrej Mahecic assumed Maran may have been helped by someone because a small child would not be able to survive the extreme weather on his own.

Marwan has now been reunited with his parents.
