Cameron pleads to Scottish voters

Don't break away - David Cameron's emotional plea for Scotland to remain part of the United Kingdom.

Speaking at the site of the 2012 London Olympics, the British prime minister warned a vote for independence would undermine Britain's standing in the world.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) BRITISH PRIME MINISTER, DAVID CAMERON, SAYING:

"The best thing about the Olympics wasn't the winning, it was the red, the white, the blue. It was the summer that patriotism came out of the shadows and came into the sun. Everyone cheering as one, for team GB. And it's GB I want to talk about today. Our United Kingdom"

Scots will decide in September whether to end the 300-year-old union.

A "yes" vote would place the future of Britain's Scotland-based nuclear submarine fleet in doubt and potentially weaken the UK's claim to a permanent seat in the United Nations.

Recent polls show only around a third of Scots are keen to break away.
