The aircraft was assigned to the 48th Fighter Wing based at the RAF Lakenheath U.S. airbase.

"I can confirm that we have officers at the scene of a helicopter crash on the Salthouse marshes in north Norfolk. The helicopter has been confirmed as a U.S. Air Force Pave Hawk HH-60 helicopter. The helicopter had a crew of four, and sadly at this time we believe all four members of the crew had died."

There was no immediate information as to the cause of the crash. U.S. officials say the helicopter was performing a low-level flying exercise at the time.

No injuries were reported in the area where the helicopter went down.
