Prisoners stuck behind iron bars don’t really have much to look forward to during the holiday season. Two women in Australia decided to change that.

The women were locked up in the Emu Plains Correctional Centre, located in New South Wales. On New Year’s Eve, the ladies, evidently sick of jail life, hatched an escape plot.

While it wouldn’t be considered very advanced, they tied together dozens of simplistic bed sheets. The women intended to use the makeshift sturdy rope to scale a 20 foot perimeter fence and walk to their destinations.

However the plan was foiled after jail authorities discovered the tied up sheets stashed under a prison bed. Corrective Services Commissioner Peter Severin stated “I know our officers want to be with their families at this time of year, like everyone else. But in our prisons it's business as usual, and that includes our program of frequent routine searches.”

An investigation has since been launched to find out how the ladies obtained the dozens of sheets. The females, aged 32 and 21, are reportedly behind bars for property and fraud offenses.
